Our cuisine

The sea of Sicily, served with care

Since 2010 La Sciccheria Ortigia has told the story of Sicily through the flavours of the sea, in the heart of the old town.

Born from the passion of chef-owner Carmelo, La Sciccheria selects the best of the local catch and the island's finest produce every day — from Mediterranean red prawn to the most prized oysters. Traditional dishes, reinterpreted with restraint, in an elegant, welcoming stone dining room on the island of Ortigia, a few steps from Piazza Duomo in the historic centre of Syracuse.

  • In the heart of Ortigia
A few steps from Piazza Duomo, among the alleys of the old town.
  • 100% Gluten Free
Every dish is available in a gluten-free version, fresh pasta included (€1.50 supplement). Carmelo, the owner, is trained in coeliac meals (SIAN – ASP Syracuse course, 2013).

An excellence for coeliacs

Gluten-free, without compromise

At La Sciccheria, gluten-free is not a side note: it is part of our identity. With coeliacs in our own family, we know what it means to choose freely and eat in complete safety, without giving up on taste.

  • A full menu, not 'adapted'Every dish is available gluten-free: from fresh-pasta first courses to fried dishes, all the way to desserts like the cannolo.
  • Care against contaminationDedicated preparation and careful procedures to serve coeliac guests with the utmost safety.
  • Trained in coeliac mealsCarmelo, the owner, attended the course for food-sector operators on preparing meals for coeliacs run by the SIAN of the Syracuse Provincial Health Authority (ASP) in 2013 — care we have brought to the kitchen every day since.
  • Even the fresh pastaOur fresh pasta has its gluten-free version too: a rare detail that truly makes the difference.

“A level of attention to coeliac needs that is genuinely rare to find.” — from our guests' reviews
